I Belong

He’s been in front of the gate for 15 minutes now, but since then, he hasn’t moved an inch. The people are streaming, bumping into him from different directions. Some pointed fingers at him, cursed him, laughed at him, but he doesn’t seem to bother. He was frozen, staring at the building – doubting.

“I am here,” he mumbled.

Someone shouted in a language that is familiar to him. His eyes searched to see where it was coming from. It was from a group of five – three boys and two girls – who are happily entering the building.

He gazed up at the building once more, tightly grabbed the straps of his backpack then started to walk forward – smiling, with pride.
